Content2.0 - Generation Y talks to the audience

Chair: William Higham - MD, The Next Big Thing, talked to two of the current generation of young digital consumers.

Rory: Filling up a band night is easier than 6/7 years ago apparently.

Dot: "A huge amount of communication is through instant messaging and messageboards." Which medium you use depends on what kinds of people you want to talk to.

Dot: Multiple digital identies are maintained and 'never meet'.

Dot: In fact there are so many reaosn not to use MySpace, one of which is your job interviewer will find you!

Rory: Realised he could make more friends if he was on MySpace. I'd follow the crowd. He sets a target and if it doesn't work in 6 months he delets his profile.

Dot: LiveJournal is more interesting as it has people more geared to my interests and people can spell there.

Dot: I'm a gamer and moderator on a few web sites. Also interested in the Creative Commons issue. [Ed note: This is a power user clearly, not the average MySpace teen really].

Rory: Mobile phone is the medium I use the most. The Net is a couple of hours a day. I steer away from TV. I can download shows without adverts.

Dot: Most media get is through PC. Mostly I IM and talk to friends and listen to radio. Laptops make it portable.

Rory: I put a lot of photos up online via Photbucket.

Dot: flickr

Dot: Apple - prefer standards, usability. Safe easier to use.

Rory: I've grown up with Macs so find them easier. Had bad experience with iPods, but customer service is great - I'm now on my 6th.

Dot: we're worried about commercial intrusoin into the Internet and reducing the functionality of the Internet.

Rory: I recently discovered Skype and that has been amazing talking to family. YouTube is good for killing an hour looking at stupid videos.

Dot / Rory: I'm definitely more interested in the world of mouth.
